Are you curious about how I transformed my struggles in math into success and became a certified math tutor?
When people discover I teach math, they often assume I am a math prodigy. Little do they know, I passed my classes more by sheer determination than brilliance—think of it as a math survival story, complete with plenty of erasers and caffeine.
Background
I always felt that my math teacher was speaking in a different language from me. Often, I wondered, “What is wrong with me? Why can’t I understand like my friends?”
I used to be afraid of asking questions because one of my teachers would publicly embarrass students who did so. As a result of this, I developed frequent and severe headaches, which later turned out to be migraines. I dreaded going to that class. Although I had a better experience in Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus, the negative experience had already caused me to develop a dislike for math.
I teach math slowly and compassionately so students don’t feel the way I did.
Experience
I have 19 years of teaching experience in elementary and middle school, primarily focusing on math and science for grades 6, 7, and 8.
